VMware Systems Engineer

Job Description

We have an opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join our talented Professional Services team. The successful candidate will provide engineering expertise in systems technology areas such as Microsoft, VMware, and Infrastructure.  The Systems Engineer is primarily responsible for support of system migration activities for publically facing web applications hosted within the DoD Pentagon DMZ.  In addition, this role involves evaluating DoD approved application hosting options (including .milCloud and AWS GovCloud) and providing an analysis and assessment to determine a recommended near and long term strategy.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Perform system requirements analysis to translate users’ needs into a technical system, product definitions, and functional/engineering requirements
  • Conduct analysis, identify “as-is” and “to-be” processes, collect relevant data, information and documentation to formulate and implement a solution or recommendation
  • Coordinate and facilitate application migration activities to migrate public facing DoD applications into an approved DMZ
  • Plan, coordinate and perform System Engineering activities and performance Engineering Analysis
  • Develop system engineering processes and procedures for solutions to satisfy user requirements

Required Skills

  • A BS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering, IT infrastructure support, and application migration
  • Strong working knowledge in various IT technologies including Microsoft, VMware, web application firewall
  • Demonstrated ability to assess system architecture and provide recommendations for enhancements and improvements to performance, security, and functionality
  • In depth understanding of network architectures and data communication protocols including: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP
  • Intermediate understanding of Firewall, VPN configuration, and switching
  • Strong leadership as well as oral and written communication skills are required
  • Developed problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent presentation & communication skills in both oral and written form
  • Genuine desire to learn is essential. 
  • Experience working in the Federal Government
  • ACTIVE SECRET CLEARANCE IS REQUIRED

Desired Skills

  • Industry Relevant Certification (MCSE: Server Infrastructure, VCA, VCP-DCV)
  • Experience working with Government and commercial cloud providers (i.e. AWS, Azure, DISA .milCloud)

This position is located in Arlington, VA.
